Slight Spoilers:If you have read the other books don't stop, read this book and finish the series. It is a great world to get into and I don't feel that the ending will disappoint too many. That said there just isn't enough in the book. It seems like Brent glosses over a lot of things throughout the series. In the first book I noticed Logan was hardly mentioned but then gets to be a main character throughout the next two books. Would have been great to connect with him like we did with Kylar but he was glossed over. Same with Dorian. The man was hardly mentioned throughout two books and then is thrust to the front in the third. Im not saying we should get a quarter of the book to him. Im saying there should have been more books. It seems that by sticking to three books Brent really limited himself and didn't put enough into characters and scenes that would have really made the people and the world around them that much more spectacular. The worst of Brent glossing over you will start to notice with the last thirty percent of the book. It gets to a point where you just feel everything is being rushed. Logan as King, the Chantry, God King Dorian, even Uly meeting her father and mother. GLOSSED OVER. That one hurt the worst. All in all a good series but I think it could have been a great series if he had just written more. Hell with such a complex world I feel he could have up to six books. I think Brent has learned from this series though because his new series "The Black Prism" which he originally planned to be three is getting extended. I will continue to read and buy because it seems that Brent is continuing to grow and improve. + Masterful weaving of independent storylines whose culmination results in a cliched “deus ex machina” finish that drives eager readers through the chapters.+ A rather wonderful improvement in the battle scenes that were so horribly done in the preceding novel.- Power for the sake of power becomes unrealistic when limits are never reached. Highlighting that some story arcs are individuals akin to gods decreases their worth in the story. Thankfully the bastardization of characters, through this unrealistic power jump, is left until the very end; allowing the reader to love them until the ridiculousness is unwelcomely introduced.- - - It would be nice to have a novella with the history of the black ka’kari as used by Thorne...A required novel for any reader who has any interest in the series. Ultimately anyone who loved the first novel will read through the end; so the point is very well moot.
